The second day of the World Grand Prix delivered world-class darts – and a new record average of 106.47 from Gian van Veen. Despite that, he was defeated 2–0 by Luke Littler.

Damon Heta – Luke Woodhouse 1–2 (0–3, 3–0, 2–3)
Luke Woodhouse showed composure and edged out Damon Heta in a tense battle. Heta looked set for a comeback after winning the second set 3–0, but Woodhouse held his nerve when it mattered most.

Ross Smith – Daryl Gurney 0–2 (0–3, 1–3)
Ross Smith’s campaign ended in disappointment. Coming in as a dark horse for the title, he simply couldn’t match Gurney’s consistency.

Jonny Clayton – Andrew Gilding 2–0 (3–1, 3–2)
Jonny Clayton produced one of his best performances of the year, looking calm and confident on stage. A much-needed win for the Welshman.

Gerwyn Price – Ryan Searle 2–1 (0–3, 3–2, 3–1)
Searle started fast but Price fought back with class. In the deciding set, Price never allowed Searle a chance.

Luke Littler – Gian van Veen 2–0 (3–2, 3–0)
What a match! Both young stars put on a show, with Van Veen setting a new tournament record average of 106.47 – yet Littler still won 2–0. If he maintains this form, he’s on track for the title.

Michael van Gerwen – Dirk van Duijvenbode 0–2 (0–3, 2–3)
A surprising all-Dutch result as Van Duijvenbode dominated Van Gerwen, who never found his rhythm.

Peter Wright – Mike De Decker 1–2 (3–1, 1–3, 1–3)
The defending champion Mike De Decker started with a win over Peter Wright, who once again looked out of sorts. De Decker will need to step up his game to retain the crown.

Josh Rock – Ryan Joyce 2–1 (1–3, 3–1, 3–2)
Josh Rock showed resilience, coming from behind to beat the tricky Ryan Joyce.

Upcoming matches – Wednesday, October 8 (Round 2, best of 5 sets):
