David Munyua has etched his name into the history of darts. By winning the African Qualifier in Nairobi, he secured a spot at the 2026 PDC World Darts Championship, becoming the first Kenyan player ever to reach the sport’s biggest stage.
In recent years, Munyua has established himself as one of Africa’s leading players outside of South Africa. The qualifier drew 96 participants from across the continent, but it was Munyua who rose to the occasion. Backed by a passionate home crowd, he battled through to the final and defeated South Africa’s Cameron Carolissen 10–8 in a thrilling match.
His achievement is more than a personal triumph. For decades, South Africa has dominated the African darts scene. Now, Kenya has broken through, and Munyua’s success marks a landmark moment for the sport’s growth across the continent.
When the World Championship begins at Alexandra Palace in December 2026, Munyua will face the greatest challenge of his career. Whether he advances deep into the tournament or not, his place in history is already secured – as the man who put Kenya on the world darts map.
