In this article series, we will go through all the teams participating in this year’s edition of the World Cup of Darts. First up are last year’s finalists, Austria.
Players: Mensur Suljovic / Rusty-Jake Rodriguez
Ranking: 12
The team remains unchanged from last year, with Mensur Suljovic and Rusty-Jake Rodriguez once again representing Austria. In last year’s tournament, the pair made it all the way to the final, where England proved too strong.
Austria got off to a great start in the group stage, dropping only one leg in their two group matches against China and Guyana. In the knockout rounds, they first defeated Taiwan before facing Croatia in the quarter-finals – a real nail-biter that was decided in the final leg. In the semi-finals, they convincingly beat Belgium 8–3.
This year, Austria is ranked 12th, just behind Sweden. For the team to reach the final again would be a major surprise, but as is often the case in team competitions, what really matters is how well the players get along on stage – something Austria clearly demonstrated last year.
